Real or Fake?
oil on panel, 10x10"
Day four of the 30 in 30 painting challenge!
When I look at this image I think about being sold a sticky-sweet fake reality, and how wonderful it can be to live in lalaland.
Noticing the candy-colored fakeries around me (false advertising), brings me back to practice of painting, as the ultimate endeavor of magic and illusion. It's easy to be seduced into believing in things too good to be true.
The cherries are my favorite portion of this work, as they have both a long history as a still life symbolic object and were so delectably pure fun to paint. These ice cream cones are over saturated, and are visually delicious only, not for human consumption ...they’re fake!
