“A test of a vocation is the love of the drudgery it involves.”
-Logan Pearsall Smith
There are times as an artist, when you let others know your profession and the response is, “oh that’s so fun!” Art making can be joyful and miserable. Sometimes when you set up a complex challenge for yourself it can be downright “drudgery” as well as fascinating.
This daily project has it’s ups and downs. It’s about finding the strength to show up and do the work everyday, despite what life throws at you. This is a problem I encounter in my regular process, but it is placed under a microscope during a period when I’m making daily paintings. Steven Pressfield calls it Resistance and he writes in a lovely way about the subject.
