Beautimous |
This focused body of work references child beauty pageantry, giving a nod to the ridiculous spectacle of traditional feminine norms. Each watercolor highlights a figure from the reality television show, “Toddlers and Tiaras” in bright, flashy colors. The garish marks echo the young characters heightened demeanor, creating a visual mess of both material and expression. The work is presented as a platform for viewers to engage in the conversation surrounding displays of femininity and how that affects the amount of power/ respect we give towards an individual. At times hilarious, sad and entertaining, this series questions the ethics of fascination as they pertain to young women.
