ABOUT THE WORK “Sympathetic vibrations refer to a musical resonance between two parts of an instrument (or two instruments), for example, tuning forks. When one creates a sound, the other is affected and echoes it, despite their separate locations. When thinking about how my work could be in service to those in Ukraine, this relationship of sympathetic vibrations came to mind. The hurt and destruction that is happening there is a heartbreak felt in the warzone and also one that deeply resonates with those who are far away. Much of my work contemplates art as a visual antidepressant. Stars are found to be the most hopeful shape, research has illuminated this for us. With this concept in mind I have been incorporating an abundance of stars into my recent work. Analogous color schemes are known to soothe anxiety, here with various tones of blue flowing over each star. My intention with this print release is to directly aid the children in Ukraine, who are caught up in devastating surroundings, by supporting the mission of Voices of Children. These children are in need of a message of hope at this moment, and I feel strongly about doing my part to help provide." -Ingrid V. Wells |
