SFAI Public Education has invited me to teach a few new and exciting painting courses. I'll be teaching an Intermediate Oil Painting Techniques course this spring, a Zero to Sixty painting course in the summer and a 30 Paintings in 30 Days course in the fall. I'm thrilled to be invited to join the team and so excited to share in subjects I love. If you're in town, join in the fun! Also sign up for my monthly newsletter for 10% OFF the first class!
Skip ahead to 13:00 to hear Elizabeth Gilbert talk about the shit sandwiches. What a lovely way of putting it! She's making the point that you will have to "eat a lot of shit sandwiches" to get through creative pursuits. Of course evertime they say shit sandwich I keep thinking of the John Waters' Pink Flamingos.
Later this month I will be exhibiting three paintings with the CICA Museum in South Korea. I'm honored to be included, and a little tickled to send an insubordinate feminist painting to that region of the world. This exhibition runs January 27 - February 12, 2017. Be sure to visit if you are in the area!
Danielle Krysa is an artist, curator and writer on topics relating to creativity. Her most recent book Your Inner Critic is a Big Jerk is an honest approach to unpacking the bully within. She does a fabulous job of pushing herself out of her comfort zone when sharing her experiences so that her audience can begin to tackle their own inner critics. I love how she engages her audience and has them stand up to go through what must be a memorable teaching exercise. Your Inner Critic is a Big Jerk- a must read!
From January 17- 22nd my work will be included in a group show at The Untitled Space in Manhattan. The gallery has partnered with the ERA Coalition for the exhibit and will be donating 25% of proceeds to their Fund for Women's Equality to fight against sex discrimination and further their initiative to have an equal rights amendment added to the US constitution. The Huffington Post and NY Magazine have written about this exhibition, among others.
If you're in NYC check out the Nasty Women exhibition January 12-15th. This show highlights feminist artwork from across the nation from artists that make work in support of women's rights. With proceeds going towards Planned Parenthood, this thrilling show will be held at The Knockdown Center, Maspeth, Queens, NYC. I'll have a portrait of Hillary Clinton in the exhibition.
Brené Brown is a writer and researcher on vulnerability. Here she discusses the creative arena and getting your ass kicked. She's a genius. Enjoy!
Good Luck With That (below) will be on display as part of the California College of the Arts exhibition, ART / WORK, featuring a selection of their artists on staff. This panel is oil on panel, 12x12" and was a part of my 30 Paintings in 30 Days series. The exhibition will be in the Oakland Campus College Avenue Galleries and will run January 17-20th. Happy to be showing with such a lovely group!
'Excited to announce that I'll be selling prints with Visual Art Exchange (VAE) Creativity Incubator in Raleigh, NC this month. The See Attached show runs January 6-26th. If you are in the area, check it out. I'll be showing Plastik Fantastik! and a few other works that discuss the femme smile.
Liz Gilbert on making safe psychological contructs for creatives. Her book Big Magic is my favorite book and a must read for any artist.
